Rose Chapman

My work focuses on figurative images using line, colour and print to interpret a theme.

I am interested in distinct silhouettes and also their strong and varying symbolism in different cultures.  I explore shapes and voids; looking at how choices of colour can create very different moods.

The choice of images, colours and marks and their presentation reflects the mood associated with the objects and emotional responses to items including memory, sentiment and traditions.

I am interested in the shapes and surface patterns of objects, seeking to capture these in print, stitch and other treatments.

Maps, buildings, music, dance, plants, insects, birds, people and animals are all themes that I have enjoyed and frequently return to for further exploration and inspiration.
